PHILADELPHIA — Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte, who extended his postseason hitting streak to 16 games, was named MVP of the 2023 NL Championship Series after Arizona beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 in Game 7, punching its ticket to the World Series.
Marte went 12-for-31 with four doubles, one triple and 4 RBI, and his double in Game 7 helped set up Arizona's fourth run, huge insurance for the light's-out Diamondbacks bullpen.
He has 19 hits in this post season and will look to build on that total when the World Series begins Friday in Arlington, Texas, against the AL champion Rangers.
Marte's hitting streak is the longest by any player to start his postseason career in MLB history − and just one game shy of the overall record. Only three players − Manny Ramirez, Derek Jeter and Hank Bauer − have recorded a hit in 17 consecutive postseason games.
